Tofu Dinner Favorites from Tofu Cookery

Since Santa brought me two new vegan books, I had to make some room on my cookbook shelves.  Looking through, I realized how awesome and important some of these books are and the impact they've had on me.  They took me from Slightly Anemic Teenage Junk Food Vegan that can make toast and spaghetti to Super Healthy Whole Foods Vegan that can actually cook!

Tofu Cookery by Louise Hagler was one of my first vegan cookbooks.  I remember flipping through this book thinking that these recipes were so unusual.  Back then, I didn't cook much and I wasn't too concerned with healthy eating.  If I'm remembering correctly, it was a Christmas gift from a family friend.  The pictures looked so good, but recipes were so foreign to me.  Could I really make dinners that looked like this?  Looking back, this might have been one of the best presents ever because it was the beginning of my vegan cooking life.  These days, the pages are stained and folded in evidence to the important place it has on my cookbook shelf.  Here are two of my favorites:

Barbequed Tofu
Seen here with sauteed kale, this barbequed tofu is made with frozen tofu and a few other simple ingredients like black pepper, soy sauce, and peanut butter.  It's easy to make and soooo delicious!
Sesame Tofu
This is one of my favorite tofu dishes ever, and I've had some crazy amazing tofu in my life.  The combination of ginger, garlic, sesame seeds, and soy sauce are just perfect!  Both of these dishes are baked, so they aren't oily or heavy at all.  Just crispy and delicious!

That BBQ Tofu looks sooooooo delicious! Can you believe I don't own Tofu Cookery? I own other books by Louise, but not her most prolific work. For shame. I need to remedy that.

I still have not mastered tofu. I have gotten better at cooking it over the years but I can't get it quite right.

I usually only eat tofu from a restaurant because it blows mine out of the water.

Both of those dishes look divine! Mmm Mmm!

I receieved The Vegan Table for xmas, and I love it!

Despite sounding fairly dated, I've heard such good things about the tofu cookery book... Perhaps I need to suspend my disbelieve and give it a look through at last. These dishes certainly sound good!
