Cheap, Vegan, and Eco-Friendly Solutions to Dry Skin

Between the windy, cold air outside and the dry heat inside, my skin and lips have been parched.  Here's what I've tried and loved:

I slather a stick of cocoa butter on my lips and all over my face before I go out for a run.  It gets super windy at the beach and boardwalk, and this helps seal in some much needed moisture.  I prefer this to Vaseline, much more eco-friendly.

A jojoba and cocoa butter mixture-I scoop out about 1/2 teaspoon and let it melt in my hands.  Then I rub it into my face and lips as a mask.  It eventually gets absorbed and leaves my skin soft and happy.  I don't recommend doing this right before you go to sleep unless you only use a little bit.  You could wake up with greasy hair if you use too much and don't let it sink in first.

Straight up organic coconut oil-Let it melt a little on your finger, put it on your lips.  Delicious, eco-friendly, and super moisturizing. I also do this with vitamin E after I use this amazing lip scrub from Lush

The other thing that I've been doing is eating more healthy fats.  I've been making some baked goods with organic coconut oil, eating avocados, and I've been taking more omega 3 supplements.  This all seems to make a difference!

I'm still looking for a good, long lasting vegan lip balm though.  Maybe I can mix my own with cocoa butter, vitamin E, and coconut oil.  I just need to find a little jar I can re-purpose so I can carry it around with me.

I really like your blog. It makes me miss home though. I am from Hawaii, but recently moved to Nebraska for a job :( I am now following your blog :)

This is some valuable advice! Dry skin is something I constantly fight with throughout winter, since I'm always washing dishes and working in the dry kitchen. It's torture on my hands. Thank goodness I actually have a bit of pure cocoa butter on hand already!

Winter can be so mean to our skin! I'm actually lucky, I don't have any real problems, but I do love yummy lip balms! I wish I could get my hands on some coconut oil/butter here - that would be my first choice.

I've started rubbing coconut oil into my face at night. This has been the worst year ever for my skin. My skin is literally peeling off my face. It's gross but the coconut oil seems to be helping....also love that Lush lip scrub!
